Have you ever gone on a hike and wondered what a certain bird, plant, flower, tree, or insect was that you saw and wished there was something you could use to identify it without carrying a bunch of field guides? Join Ranger Stephanie as she introduces several great hiking and nature-based apps available for smartphones that can enhance your hiking experience! Some examples of apps that we will explore are eBird, iNaturalist, Seek, Night Sky, and Tennessee State Parks' app. We will hike approximately 3 miles of easy to moderate level trails in Seven Islands State Birding Park. This hike will also be great for people wanting to explore the park with Ranger Stephanie, even if they don't have a smartphone or apps, but want to learn what the park has to offer and learn some of the natural history of things found along the trails.
Meet at the Bluebird Barn by the main parking lot by 9:00AM. Please wear appropriate walking/hiking shoes and bring plenty of water, sunscreen, or bug repellant with you. If you have binoculars that you would like to bring, they might be helpful in seeing some of the birds and wildlife from a distance. In case of inclement weather, participants will be contacted ahead of time. The registration cost for this program is $4.00 per person. Children are welcome to attend. If you have any questions about this program, please contact Ranger Stephanie at SevenIslandsSIR@gmail.com or by cell phone 715-630-6848.
